JUSTICE TRAINED WRESTLING
Established in 2020, Justice Trained Wrestling, headed by longtime wrestling coach and attorney/filmmaker/author Kenneth Del Vecchio, has focused on personalized training for high school, college, and youth wrestlers. This training, which has been multi-state and at several locations, prepares the wrestlers for experiences both on and off the mat, including wrestling technique, wrestling strategy, wrestling rules and regulations, media and public relations dealings, organizational matters, and lifestyle choices.
STATEMENT FROM COACH DEL VECCHIO
Wrestling is a 5-tool sport, with equal components of mental strength (confidence), physical strength, agility, conditioning, and, of course, technique. That said, it is, above all else, a sport rooted in character. A wrestler has a team of athletes and a coaching staff around him, but on the mat he is there, alone, to carry out a very tough athletic battle with another singular person; in each and every match, regardless of talent level, this is not an easy task; by its nature, each match is a significant character building experience. I feel that, as a coach, my first role is to help wrestlers build in their development of winning with character – and losing with character – as, after all, every person must go through these win/lose experiences in numerous life circumstances. The physical and mental challenges that a wrestler endures in a match, in front of a crowd, is a powerful event; even wrestling teammates in practice matches are events of some significance. As delineated in my overall career bio, I have accomplished in some of the most difficult career fields and learned (and continue to learn) substantially about winning and losing; I can say, with a great degree of strength, that there is nothing quite like wrestling, wherein it truly provides an athlete with the abilities of how to win with humility and lose with grace—and I find that wholly valuable.
RECOMMENDATION FOR COACH DEL VECCHIO FROM D1 NATIONAL CHAMP AJ FERRARI
Dear Sir/Madam,
Please accept this letter of recommendation for Kenneth Del Vecchio to serve as head wrestling coach for your school. Coach Del Vecchio, who I often refer to as Uncle Ken (even though we are not actually biologically related) because he has been that meaningful in my life, is perhaps the most impressive, intelligent, dedicated, loyal, and talented man I have ever met. His wrestling coach abilities are at the greatest level because of his very rare combination of elite wrestling knowledge, lengthy experience in coaching, passion for wrestling, strategic thinking, major professional successes in law and entertainment, and that he is an incredibly compassionate human being who cares for the individuals he coaches as people and not just athletes.
I have known Uncle Ken for several years, and he began providing personal wrestling coaching to me beginning back in 2020. Multiple years later, he became my manager. I don’t mean this to sound like a cliché, but words cannot begin to describe just how valuable he has been to me as a mentor. Other than my father, he is the most impactful person in my life. As a true freshman Division 1 National Champion Wrestler, one can imagine that I have worked with many very talented and experienced coaches (many of whom I have learned from and respect), so I think the aforementioned is an incredibly powerful statement by me, where really nothing else needs to be said. However, I will say quite a bit more.
Some coaches look like they’re great because they have this resume stocked with D1 experience, but unfortunately too many of them are just robotic, carboard cutout types who spew the same robotic words, teach the same stale technique, and have very little (or no) skills in the multitudes of areas that actually make for a truly great coach. They have no idea how to fundraise, no idea how to effectively recruit, no idea how to deal with the NCAA and the many regulations that govern the programs and athletes, no idea how to administrate and organize, no idea about any of the business aspects connected to coaching, no idea about the public relations and media activities that are so integral to D1 athletes in today’s world, and no idea how to fully relate to the wrestlers they coach. Kenneth Del Vecchio has ALL of these abilities and so much more, and he owns them, personifies them, and has no one above him because he is the true complete package.
Uncle Ken’s resume has a plethora of impressive wrestling coaching credentials (like a number of other coaches do), but, while Uncle Ken’s resume speaks for itself, what other coach has live events credentials like him (operating one of the world’s largest film festivals for 15 years)? What other coach has been the employer of numerous movie stars (producing dozens of movies)? What other coach has negotiated thousands of contracts and argued law in scores and scores of actual trials and made the most important of decisions (as an attorney and formerly as a judge)? What other coach has debated other powerful legal minds in front of audiences of millions of people (in being a star TV legal analyst)? What other coach has his kind of academic teaching experience (in instruct a couple thousand police officers and lawyers at high-priced seminars)? What other coach is recognized as the premiere authority in law altogether (in being the author of massive best-selling legal books)? These astounding career successes make Uncle Ken truly unmatched. He can do so much more, way more than any other coach. What his background delivers for the complete coaching package will deliver the best assembled team, with the best possible training, with the best possible legally protected program, with the best possible media trained athletes, with the best possible educationally-oriented athletes, with the best possible organized group, and with the best possible life advice (I wish I could have had him in the room with every day of my college career—how I could have grown so much more).
And please let me add this, Uncle Ken, like his son Mario, is a physical weightlifting phenom. A man who couldn’t be more against steroids and performing enhancing drugs, he has won numerous weightlifting competitions, bench pressing at his best 385 lbs on flat bench and an aberrational 450 lbs on decline bench while weighing only 175 lbs (and you would never know it by looking at him, as he has long arms with a solid, but not huge, athletic build). Which brings me to Uncle Ken’s son, Mario, who at only 17-years-old and 165 lbs put up 315 lbs on flat bench and 375 lbs on decline bench (he’s probably number one in the country for his age/weight). Why all this about their weightlifting abilities? While it may not be as important as all the other matters I discussed in this letter, weightlifting and corresponding physical strength is critical in wrestling. And this man knows how to teach weightlifting just the same as wrestling—and its ‘s so very notable that he has delivered this work ethic and knowledge to his son and voluminous others who he has coached. And if you want the ultimate proof of who Uncle Ken is as a wrestling coach, I re-invoke his son Mario, a current high school State Champion who has some of the greatest statistics that I have ever seen in a high school wrestler, such as being the only freshman to lead the State of New Jersey in pins (tied for the hardest wrestling state in the country with Pennsylvania and California) and having the four fastest tech falls in South Carolina state history. I’ve almost never seen a wrestler with that kind of dominance (being both a prolific pinner and having wickedly fast tech falls); the best of the best guys have one or the other, but Mario has both incredible abilities. More importantly, he is a total class act, with the best character of any kid in high school I know, and he’s just the absolute best natural leader. While the most credit should go to Mario himself, I of course recognize that this comes in large part from the best of parenting by Uncle Ken and his wife, Dr. Francine Del Vecchio.
All of this set out: any wrestler and any school would be in the best possible position to have Kenneth Del Vecchio in their corner as their head coach. Please feel free to contact me and I can spend a lot more time telling you just how great of a coach Uncle Ken and mentor he is, and why he would be the best possible person to be your head coach.
Sincerely,
AJ Ferrari
